Simon Crane

Simon served in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in London, UK for 30 years, operating within the covert policing arena, proactively investigating terrorism, serious and organised crime and police corruption. Simon also undertook a number of strategic projects whilst in the MPS, engaging with key stakeholders from ministerial to practitioner level. In a career highlight, Simon designed, wrote and then tactically delivered the National Covert Security Strategy for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Since leaving the police in 2018, Simon has gained extensive experience in the commercial sector, operating at Director level within companies involved in security and risk management across the hospitality & travel sectors. In 2018, Simon developed a set of independently accredited global standards for hotel security, including hotels in high-risk environments. Simon went on to develop those standards to encompass serviced accommodation, designed the assessment process for the standards and recruited and trained a team of 50 assessors. Simon was also involved in the development of the ‘Accommodation’ element of ISO 31030:2021 Travel Risk Guidance for Organisations.
In 2020 Simon was recruited as Project Director to lead an international security sector reform project in Libya, working directly to the Libyan Minister of the Interior, Fathi Bashaga, who is now the country’s de facto Prime Minister. In 2021, Simon started his own consultancy, SC Risk Consulting Ltd, providing a range of risk and security services to clients, as diverse as international hospitality groups and members of Middle Eastern Royal families. During this time Simon also wrote the only two accredited qualifications in Travel Risk Management at Level 4 and Level 5 on the UK’s OFQUAL Register of Qualifications.
In April 2023 Simon joined AHNA Group as Director of Consulting to develop their Consulting Division and since joining has won a number of major contracts, including commercial, UHNW residential and hospitality projects, providing security design and consultancy services in the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
Simon is a registered independent security consultant and is a Managing Director on the Board of the UK Association of Security Consultants. Simon is also an active member of ASIS International and is part of the ASIS Travel Risk Management Working Group, as well as being a member the Institute of Strategic Risk Management.
